Entleiber 'tis the season of the chilly, ghostly goth rock. Atmospheric and dreamy work, much appreciated. There are some moments, like in the title track or in 'Rusted 20', when vocals and synth align so perfectly it lifts you off the ground, creating that mysterious bliss that leaves you high long after you stopped listening. Favorite track: Perfumes and Fripperies.

about

After forming in the mid'80s, The Wake earned numerous critical accolades as part of the so called "second wave" of goth in the early '90s. Through their releases, appearances on a myriad of compilations, and extensive touring through out the '90s, The Wake secured a place in goth and roll history.

Now, almost 25 years since their last full length album, The Wake release another readymade goth classic - Perfumes and Fripperies.

"Here - dark, uneasy truths are revealed, fate and resolution come to terms, whispering dreams and memories dance in the moon light... there will be no sleep tonight."

Recorded over many months in different locations and various circumstances in the band’s native Ohio, the album comes together to speak with one voice. Enhanced no doubt, by the mix provided by Matt Hagberg at VMS in Columbus, OH and mastering by Emily Lazar at The Lodge in NYC.
